Where have all the protest songs gone?
Well, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez may not be writing them anymore, but
two Wisconsinites have penned songs that tackle two of the biggest
issues in the state: the Crandon mine and a state law that teachers
say has unfairly held down their salaries.
While both songs take positions on key issues, they were written
by two musicians with distinctly different backgrounds.
"Back in the Evergreen," a song about the beauty of the Wolf River
that environmentalists and others fear is threatened by the proposed
mine, was written by Nashville recording artist Marissa Tucker and
appears on her just-released compact disc called "If I Had a Penny."
