George Lawson Norris, 85, a retired public relations officer
with the Department of Housing and Urban Development who also was a
former journalist and association executive, died of a heart ailment
May 8 at his home in Arlington.
Mr. Norris came to Washington in 1941 to join the news staff
of the Washington Times Herald newspaper. He served with the Army in
Europe during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star, before
returning to the Times Herald as a court reporter.
After the Times Herald was purchased by The Washington Post in
1954, Mr. Norris worked for the National Association of Real Estate
Boards, was executive secretary of the D.C. Bar Association, and did
