Article: SWIMMING PREVIEW Champs drop a depth charge Whitefish Bay's numbers favor quest for title repeat; SWIMMERS TO WATCH Jeff Blatnik, sr., Brookfield Academy: Made a name for himself with solid performance in Division 1 state meet last year. Finished fifth in 100-yard backstroke in 53.47 seconds and 10th in 200 individual medley. Noah Burgard, sr., West Bend West: Finished second overall in the 1-meter diving competition in Division 1 for the second straight year at the state meet with a score of 463.00. Peter Clark, jr., Whitefish Bay: Won 500 freestyle in 4:44.16 and finished third in 100 freestyle in 1:45.58 in Division 2. Also swam anchor leg of Bay's winning 400 freestyle relay. Sean Foley, jr., Brookfield East: Won the 100 freestyle in 1:42.05 and missed winning the 50 freestyle by just two-hundredths of a second, in 46.48, in Division 2 last season. Andy Kopacz, sr., Hartford: Defending Division 1 state champion in both the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. He won the 100 freestyle in 1:42.79 and the 100 backstroke in 58.79. Ted Krueger, sr., Arrowhead: Finished second in the 100 backstroke in 51.62 and sixth in 200 individual medley in 1:58.99 in Division 1. Also swam legs of Arrowhead's winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Steve Mohr, jr., Homestead: Strongest of a solid group of Homestead youngsters. In Division 1, he took third in the 200 individual medley in 1:55.71 and second in the 500 freestyle in 4:39.87. Todd Murray, sr., Brookfield East: Won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.70, just edging the defending champion, Shorewood's Brian Lofton, by two-hundredths of a second in Division 2. Aron Nakama, sr., Menomonee Falls Sussex Hamilton: Tied for sixth in the 50 freestyle in 21.91 and took second in the 100 freestyle in 47.43 at state last year in Division 1. Kevin Schwei, sr., New Berlin Eisenhower: Finished second in Division 2 in 1-meter diving last season with a 415.85 score. Tom Shane, sr., New Berlin Eisenhower: Won the 200 IM in 1:55.43 and the 100 butterfly in 51.15 in Division 2, his second straight title in each. Nick Toumanoff, jr., Arrowhead: Took fourth in the 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle. Paul Valen, jr., Muskego: Won a second straight state title in the Division 1 500 freestyle in 4:36.14, the third-best time ever in the state.

After winning three state championships in the mid-1950s,
Whitefish Bay went a long time 40 years, to be precise before it
won its fourth title last season.
Chances are the Blue Dukes won't have to wait that long again.
Led by talented junior Peter Clark and returning the bulk of its
deep squad from last season, Whitefish Bay has visions of repeating
as Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 state
champion and returning the program to the success of its glory years
some four decades ago.
"We hope to wait a year, actually not even a year," said Bay coach
