The best decision ESPN The Magazine could make to improve itself
would be to shoot the art director.
All right, no deaths.
But at the very least, that person should be allowed to attend
all staff meetings at The Magazine only on the condition he or she
come shackled and gagged, wheeled in on a dolly like Hannibal Lecter
in "Silence of the Lambs."
The premier issue of ESPN The Magazine is formidable in content
and out of control in style. Once editor John Papanek figures out
that content, not style, will ultimately sell his magazine, we all
