A train hauling oil exploded in flames Saturday when it collided
with an oncoming train on the outskirts of Cameroon's capital, state
television reported. As many as 100 people were killed.
A giant plume of black smoke was visible through much of Yaounde
on Saturday as rescue workers scrambled to extinguish the fire.
The trains collided in mid-afternoon. Before the explosion, hundreds
of bystanders rushed to scoop up oil gushing from the ruptured
tankers.
Witnesses and doctors at several Yaounde hospitals said at least
100 people were killed in the blast, although Cameroon state-run
television put the number in the dozens.
