Last night the Washington Capitals stole a point they probably
never should have gotten close enough to smell, not after they
started the game with little intensity and finished it with key
injuries to an already-depleted defense. Yet stellar play from
goaltender Olaf Kolzig, bad touches around the net from Montreal and
gut-check play from the Capitals in the third period still gave
Washington a point in a 2-2 tie with the Canadiens at MCI Center.
The point kept Washington (36-28-12) in fourth place in
the Eastern Conference standings, although the Capitals, playing
before an estimated crowd of 16,500, almost came away with two
