Article: School selection process begins in MPS Many factors determine whether student will get one of top three choices or be assigned to a school; Central office to stay open late To help parents and their children choose a school and complete the application process, the MPS Central Services Building, 5225 W. Vliet St., will be open until 8 p.m. on two Wednesday evenings, Jan. 14 and 21. Parents with questions about the process can call 475-8000.

Cloria Wheeler knows that her fifth-grade son has three chances
to roll the dice in the annual ritual known as the school selection
process in the Milwaukee Public Schools.
Her experience of the process with her two older sons has taught
her how cautious her son must be when he puts his chips on the table.
"The decisions we make as parents are going to affect our children
for the rest of their lives," said Wheeler, who also works as MPS
parent service involvement specialist.
It's hard to find a more critical event for students in MPS than
when they select the three schools they would like to attend. Play
