Cloria Wheeler knows that her fifth-grade son has three chances to roll the dice in the annual ritual known as the school selection process in the Milwaukee Public Schools.

Her experience of the process with her two older sons has taught her how cautious her son must be when he puts his chips on the table.

"The decisions we make as parents are going to affect our children for the rest of their lives," said Wheeler, who also works as MPS parent service involvement specialist.
