A student campaign launched this week to bring back the old Marquette University nickname, the Warriors, has some alumni rolling their eyes in exasperation, others panting in hopeful anticipation and still others reaching for the antacid.

The issue resurrects one of the more painful chapters of Marquette University history. For Marquette students to be reopening this can of worms is like the Chicago Tourism Board pining for the Prohibition era.
