Bill Frisell is not only one of the most inventive jazz guitarists
of his generation but also one of the most versatile and prolific.
The 53-year-old Seattle resident is best known for leading a new
fusion movement -- the blending of jazz not with rock or funk but
with country and folk -- yet he's equally at home in mainstream post-
bop lyricism, noisy avant-garde improvisation or techno-jazz
experiments. And he pursues them all at a feverish pace. Over the
past year, he has released three albums as a band leader and has
made major contributions to Paul Motian's "I Have the Room Above
Her," Dave Douglas's "Strange Liberation," Mount Analog's "New Skin"
and Mylab's self-titled debut.
