Article: Ameritech, Compaq join on Net access Technology to offer links 50 times faster than standard phone line, modem

Ameritech Corp. took another step toward making Internet connections faster for the home PC market on Thursday by announcing a partnership with Compaq Computer Corp. to outfit select Compaq PCs for high-speed Internet access.

The agreement has no immediate impact on Ameritech customers in Wisconsin.

But an Ameritech spokeswoman said that the technology, which will speed Internet connections up to 50 times faster than a standard phone line and modem, will be offered to 70% of its customers within three years.
