Article: Jail crowding forces overtime Washington County sheriff expects numbers to remain high for weeks

The long-range forecast for the Washington County Jail is crowded, with a good chance of becoming more crowded.

This week, the jail population peaked Monday at 124 prisoners. That gradually diminished to 111 on Thursday, still substantially more than the 100 considered the maximum for the jail.

"It looks like we'll probably be between 107 and 115 inmates the next month and a half," Sheriff Jack Theusch said. The high numbers also mean that county corrections officers at the jail may be asked to work more overtime, Theusch said. Supervisors planned to discuss the situation within the next several days.
