Practically all our present-day varieties of pears have been grown
commercially for a century. There are more than 3,000 varieties of
pears in the world.
The world's best pears are grown in rich fertile soils, cool air
and warm sun. These ideal growing conditions are found in five
regions of California, Oregon and Washington.
The West Coast states produce 95% of the nation's commercially
grown fresh pears.
Pears can be used any way you would use an apple in sauce, pies,
baked, in quick breads and muffins. Retain the white or creamy color
of the flesh after cutting or peeling by sprinkling the cut surfaces
with lemon juice to prevent browning.
