Delegates of a national American Indian organization have thrown
their support behind a Wisconsin tribe in a dispute with Gov. Tommy
Thompson, who has threatened to close its casino.
The Red Cliff band of Chippewa Indians last week failed to reach
an agreement with Thompson to renew an agreement under which the
tribe runs the Isle Vista Casino at Red Cliff on the shores of Lake
Superior.
That means the tribe's casino may have to close in six months,
when the current compact expires.
Delegates to the National Congress of American Indians Wednesday
endorsed a resolution backing the Red Cliff tribe in its dispute
