Article: Council Extends City Manager's Contract; Manassas Park Gives McDonough 1 More Year

The Manassas Park city manager's contract has been extended for another year, despite strong criticism from several City Council members who say he has done a poor job of managing a growing city.

By a 4 to 3 vote, the council decided this week to let Frank McDonough keep his job until July 1999. Council members Dwight D. Ponsart, Douglas M. Parks and William R. Wren and Mayor Ernest L. Evans voted in favor of retaining the city manager. Jonell Pizzola, William J. Treuting Jr. and Kevin P. Brendel voted against keeping him.

But the council did not renew McDonough's term for a full four years, the length of his previous contract, which is set to expire
