Although only a handful of people have set foot on Whistling
Straits, and the course won't open to the public until July 7, tee
times are being reserved faster than you can say "pot bunker."
Word has spread that the Straits is something special, and the
slick brochure inserted in golf magazines in recent months by the
Kohler Co. added to its mystique.
Golf writers from across the nation have been calling Ed Allmann,
the Kohler Co.'s manager of public relations, and asking if they'll
be able to sneak in a round when they're in town to cover the U.S.
Women's Open next week.
No, they are being politely told, but thanks for your interest.
