Article: Powerball jackpot biggest ever Ticket sales drive it to $113 million; bigger prize possible, officials say

The widely held dream of becoming a millionaire many times over has pushed Saturday's Powerball jackpot to a record $113 million, lottery officials say.

Heavy sales Thursday boosted the jackpot past the $111.2 million won by a Fond du Lac schoolteacher in July 1993, said Wisconsin Lottery spokesman Andrew Bohage.

It also would be the third-largest jackpot ever of any lottery in the United States. The Multistate Lottery Association, which runs Powerball, might well announce an even higher payout late today or early Saturday, depending on sales.
