The chairman of the Red Cliff Indian Reservation says he will return to his job today after a two-week absence while authorities investigate a shortage of more than $1 million.

George Newago denied being aware last month of accounting problems that led to the shortage. However, he said, he anticipated being blamed, and decided to take a leave.

His suspension as reservation administrator is expected to be discussed today in a tribal council meeting, he said.
