Gov. Tommy Thompson on Monday called two elementary school staff
members "angels" for saving an 11-year-old girl from a
life-threatening asthma attack.
"They are angels," Thompson said of Penny Kroening, a physical
education teacher, and Renee Steckbauer, a health room aide at
Summit View Elementary School.
"They saved a life. If they had not acted, we would be crying."
Thompson was in Waukesha on Monday to sign a series of bills into
law, one of which he dubbed the "angel act" in honor of Kroening and
Steckbauer, who helped Jessica Ranieri when she had an asthma attack
during gym class last year.
The incident prompted the Legislature to pass a bill allowing
pupils to carry and use inhalers ...
