Article: Cemetery chapel's cross removed Prairie Home officials admit to politically correct motive

Acknowledging they opted for the politically correct and legally prudent over the religious, officials here removed a wooden cross that has hung in the chapel at Prairie Home Cemetery for more than 30 years.

The chapel is a city-owned building, and "our attorney advised us that it was not a matter of if you'll be sued, it's a matter of when," said Michael Wilson, cemetery commission president.

"It would be like walking into City Hall and having a cross on the wall," said Wilson, who noted that religious symbols cannot adorn the walls of public buildings.
