Article: Milwaukee County lags in state funding for W-2 Based on old formula, area gets fewer dollars per family than elsewhere

Milwaukee County continues to lose ground to the rest of the state in funding per family for the Wisconsin Works (W-2) welfare replacement program.

Even though Milwaukee County has 83% of the state's W-2 caseload, it receives just 52% of the state funding, through contracts that run through 1999.

"This doesn't make any sense," said Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills), who is asking policy-makers to "go back to the drawing board" on distributing resources for W-2. Rep.
