Well, OK. They may not grow on you, or even in the dirt behind your 7-year-old's ear, but the flavor will. Some people warm to the earthy taste of mushrooms instantly. But many people develop an enjoyment for them over time. Mushrooms may be an acquired taste, like bittersweet chocolate or a fine red wine.

On the other hand, you may never fall in love with these fabulous fungi. At least, that's the message from Eric Rose, owner of River Valley Mushroom Farm in Slades Corners, on Highway 50 in western Kenosha County, about seven miles south of Burlington.
