CBS News has been in turmoil lately, but it had reason to
celebrate this week.
The eye network's news staff walked off with 10 statuettes at the
19th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards presented Wednesday by
the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, more than any
other network news division.
CBS scored three wins for its coverage of the death of Princess
Diana. The network was brutalized by the press and chastised by
affiliates for its delayed response to the breaking news event when
it happened late on a Saturday night on Aug. 30, 1997. But CBS News
won two Emmys in the instant coverage of a single breaking-news
event category for its handling of the story on the weekend ...
