Article: Elm Grove studies tapping lake Wisconsin Gas, Milwaukee seen as potential sources; flood adds to well worries

Concerned about the future of Elm Grove's drinking-water supply, village officials have begun a formal study of the feasibility of tapping into Lake Michigan.

The Village Board authorized its staff this week to investigate the cost and logistics of hooking up to Lake Michigan through pipelines operated by Milwaukee, Wauwatosa or the Wisconsin Gas Co.

Although last week's flooding which contaminated some private wells in Elm Grove did not prompt the move, it provided another good reason to consider a new source of water, said Village Manager Andrea Steen Crawford.
