Police arrested the son of a leading Sinn Fein critic Monday on
suspicion that he helped commit Northern Ireland's worst-ever terror
attack, a car bomb that killed 28 people from all walks of life and
tore up the center of a small town.
Police took Shane Mackey, 19, and four other people at dawn from
their homes near Omagh, scene of the blast Saturday and 70 miles east
of Belfast. Under British anti-terrorist law, they can be
interrogated up to a week before being released or charged.
At Stormont, the British government headquarters in Northern
Ireland, police and military chiefs from both parts of Ireland
brainstormed about how to rout Irish Republican Army dissidents
