International superstar Jackie Chan enlists rising star/comedian
Chris Tucker to watch his back in "Rush Hour."
While the stunts are not as high-powered and dazzling as in his
Hong Kong films, the laughs and Chan's action sequences make "Rush
Hour" his best big-budget American film.
Chan plays Inspector Detective Lee (what else are Chinese actors
named in American films?) and Tucker plays loner LAPD Detective James
Carter, but they might as well have kept their real names.
Chan is his usual screen persona, the good-natured, I-don't-wanna
-hurt-anyone cop, and Tucker basically plays himself, an
overreacting, victory-dancing motor-mouth.
A spin-off formula from films like "Beverly Hills Cop" ...
