A Kohl's Food Emporium is planned for the retail center next to
Juneau Village Apartments and would be the first new supermarket to
be located in or near downtown Milwaukee since 1993.
The $4 million Kohl's would be at 1123 N. Van Buren St., formerly
the site of a Sentry Food Store. The Sentry closed in November 1997
after being in business for around 30 years.
The new Kohl's would be 44,118 square feet, according to
information filed with the city Board of Zoning Appeals. The
supermarket would be much larger than the Juneau Village Sentry
which was closed by owner Fleming Cos. after being unable to compete
with a nearby Pick 'n Save Food Store at 605 E. Lyon St.
