When visitors to New York this fall decide to see a hit
non-musical play on Broadway, they will have two choices. European
imports "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" and "Art" dominated the Tony
Awards in June, and that propelled them into the new season, the
only straight-play holdovers from spring.
But theatergoers in search of a drama should not restrict
themselves to Broadway.
In Greenwich Village, a new production of Donald Margulies'
"Collected Stories" is being staged with theater legend Uta Hagen in
the two-person cast. Although she is a very vigorous 79, Hagen does
not act in public often, and seeing her work is reason enough to
take the subway down to the Village.
