More than 40 readers sent recipes for black bottom pies as
requested by Margaret Chaney, Milwaukee, who wanted a recipe used at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison cafeteria 25 to 30 years ago.
They included: Dorothy W. Betlach, Janesville, Rhea Yovanovich,
Port Washington, Jo Spoerle, Watertown, and Vera Ludwigsen,
Hartland.
Betlach said her recipe was from "from my Carson Gulley cookbook,
revised in 1956."
"I do remember being a faithful watcher of Gulley's TV program and
still use several of his famous recipes in his book. As a Madisonian
until 1953, I also recall the respect and admiration which Carson
received. He was a tremendous cook, and UW dorm students benefited
greatly from his ...
