Article: Calcium found to ease PMS symptoms Study finds women who take daily supplements can reduce symptoms by half

Calcium supplements can help soothe the annoying symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, according to a new study by Columbia University researchers. Women who took 1,200 milligrams of calcium a day reduced PMS symptoms by more than 50%, found the study of more than 500 women, which is scheduled to be published this week in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Peter Schmidt, head of the behavioral endocrinology branch at the National Institute of Mental Health, said the findings added to a small but growing body of scientific studies that link calcium deficiency with PMS symptoms.
