The smallest game fish in one of Wisconsin's largest lakes is
down, but not out.
Surveys conducted by natural resource agencies surrounding Lake
Michigan documented yellow perch reproduction in all parts of the
lake this summer, although the amount varied widely.
Bill Horns, Great Lakes specialist for the Department of Natural
Resources Bureau of Fisheries Management and Habitat Protection, said
that at an Oct. 16 meeting of the Yellow Perch Lake Michigan Task
Group there were very good reports of perch reproduction in the lake
from Indiana and Michigan, with some, but still disappointing
reproduction in its western waters.
