Women do most of the housework and child rearing. They get paid
less than men doing the same jobs. Now, there's evidence they also
get shortchanged on sleep.
A study released Thursday by the National Sleep Foundation shows
that three specific biological events menstruation, pregnancy and
menopause disrupt the sleep of a majority of women and interfere
with how well they function during the day.
Women are 50% more likely than men to suffer from insomnia,
statistics show. But women's complaints often have been dismissed
as depression, hysteria or emotional responses that may not have a
medical cause, said Thomas Roth, chief of sleep medicine at Henry
Ford Hospital in Detroit.
