Time magazine made a mistake in passing over first lady Hillary
Clinton for its annual "Man of the Year" cover in favor of her
faithless husband and his scary, self-righteous persecutor, Kenneth
Starr. The two men are pitiful examples of officials in a democracy
granted high public trust abusing their legal and political power.
Hillary Clinton, by contrast, has displayed incredible strength of
character by carrying on all year under enormous stress with
dignity, common sense and purpose.
She, too, has power, all the more significant for being unusual
in an undefined female role that traditionally has been subordinate
and silenced. But she has used it wisely and carefully.
