Article: JDN Realty division buys Southgate Mall New owner plans to convert facility into free-standing stores

Southgate Mall has been sold to an Atlanta-based developer that is apparently proceeding with plans to convert the facility into a group of large, free-standing stores.

A division of JDN Realty Corp., which already owns five Milwaukee-area shopping centers, bought Southgate Mall from New York-based Southgate Retail LLC for $7 million, according to the Milwaukee County register of deeds.

JDN, a publicly traded real estate investment trust, specializes in developing and managing shopping centers anchored by value-oriented retailers, including Wal-Mart, Lowe's and Target. Southgate, on the west side of S. 27th St. just north of W. Morgan Ave., was built in 1951 and is considered obsolete. ...
