Carl Johnson had a great time at his wedding reception a few weeks
ago. Too bad his wife couldn't be there to share it with him.
She was back at St. Luke's South Shore hospital recovering from an
appendectomy she underwent the night before.
"At least we got married," sighed the bride, Candice
Newkirk-Johnson. "For a while, it didn't look like we could even
get that far."
The Johnsons had been planning their wedding for months. The
service was to be at 3 p.m. Sept. 12 at Virg 'N Johns, a dance hall
and bar on Milwaukee's south side. A reception was to follow.
Three days before the scheduled nuptials, Candice, 18, suffered
