It didn't take long for our warm autumn weather to change as soon
as the calendar switched to October.
Such transitions are characteristic of Wisconsin. Dramatic ups
and downs will continue into November, then become common again in
the spring, especially in April and May.
Midwest weather can be a battleground of air masses. Studies have
shown that without the flow of cold air south and warm air north,
regions to our north would get progressively colder each year, while
tropical regions to our south would get warmer.
Because Wisconsin is midway up the Northern Hemisphere, we see
changes in air masses more so than elsewhere. ...
