In a rare action, a Children's Court judge Thursday cleared the way for a 9-month-old girl to be taken off life support over the impassioned objections of the baby's family.

When the baby dies, the mother is likely to face charges of homicide. The baby has been in a coma for seven months, since her mother shook her 2-month-old daughter so violently that the baby's brain tissue was almost obliterated.
