Article: Kohl's wins liquor license for new Juneau Village store

Kohl's Food Stores Inc. received Common Council approval Tuesday to sell alcohol at its new store planned for downtown a reversal of a council vote earlier this month.

The council voted 11-6 to grant a liquor license to Kohl's for the 46,600-square-foot store it plans to develop at 1123 N. Van Buren St., next to Juneau Village Apartments. Kohl's attempt to gain license approval at the council's March 2 meeting failed on an 8-9 vote.

At Tuesday's meeting, three aldermen changed their "no" votes to "yes," giving Kohl's its margin of victory. They were Marvin Pratt, Annette Scherbert and Willie Hines. Pratt and Hines said they switched their votes because the new Kohl's will replace a ...
