Kohl's Food Stores Inc. received Common Council approval Tuesday
to sell alcohol at its new store planned for downtown a reversal of
a council vote earlier this month.
The council voted 11-6 to grant a liquor license to Kohl's for the
46,600-square-foot store it plans to develop at 1123 N. Van Buren
St., next to Juneau Village Apartments. Kohl's attempt to gain
license approval at the council's March 2 meeting failed on an 8-9
vote.
At Tuesday's meeting, three aldermen changed their "no" votes to
"yes," giving Kohl's its margin of victory. They were Marvin Pratt,
Annette Scherbert and Willie Hines.
