Property tax rates in Milwaukee County continued to fall in 1998,
but the trend may not persist much longer.
Equalized tax rates in 21 of the county's 30 taxing districts
decreased in 1998, according to a Journal Sentinel analysis.
Taxes, on an equalized basis, went down in Shorewood, Oak Creek,
St. Francis and Brown Deer, but went up in Milwaukee and Wauwatosa.
The results were mixed in communities such as Franklin, where
residents in the Franklin School District have to dig deeper into
their pockets, while those in the Oak Creek School District saw their
tax bills decline.
The newspaper collected assessed tax rates for each taxing
