Gov. Tommy Thompson's right-hand man is looking at leaving his
state post a move that would be seen as the clearest signal yet of
Thompson's lame-duck status.
Administration Secretary Mark Bugher, the governor's top deputy,
is one of two finalists for director of the University Research Park
in Madison.
"I would hope this would not be viewed negatively or as some kind
of commentary on the Thompson administration and its ability to
continue to lead in Wisconsin," said Bugher, who has been with the
governor for more than 12 years.
As the closely guarded secret began to leak out this week,
political insiders wondered what impact it would have.
