Wisconsin consumer protection officials are cautioning credit card users about a scam involving telemarketers claiming to protect credit cards from Y2K glitches.

Some companies selling credit card protection insurance, which is legal, are using questionable tactics to scare people into buying the insurance, said Glen Loyd, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
