The Wisconsin Humane Society's ceremonial groundbreaking is today on an $8.5 million facility at 4500 W. Wisconsin Ave. that will act as a lifeboat for increasing numbers of furry friends in need.

The new Humane Society building will replace the Humboldt Blvd. building that has long been criticized for overcrowding and outdated equipment.
