Article: Lung transplants save cystic fibrosis patients Wisconsin surgeons report high rates of survival with double lung procedure

A last-ditch treatment that's often attempted when a patient is at death's door a double-lung transplant is saving the lives of a growing number of Wisconsinites with cystic fibrosis, a disease that usually kills by age 30.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has done 23 such transplants, and Medical College of Wisconsin surgeons at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital have done 12. Both centers have better survival rates than the national average.
