Charly Ray and Julie Buckles have set on an adventure they both
had been dreaming of for a long time: paddling 2,700 miles north to
the Arctic Ocean.
They started the 18-month journey last week near the mouth of the
Sioux River, just a mile from their home in Bayfield County.
"To me it seems logical to leave from your house and paddle to
the end of the world," Ray said. "Haven't you ever wondered what it
would be like if you just walked out your front door and started
walking? Well, this is the non-road version of that."
The couple spent two years planning the trip, including planting,
harvesting, drying and packaging a ton of food, arranging for
drop-off points for supplies and mail, ...
