Developers, brokers and government officials are focusing on the
land near the Park East Freeway following this week's news that most
of the elevated highway will be torn down.
No specific plans have been made yet for the stretch of about 10
blocks underneath the freeway between N. 4th and N. Jefferson
streets.
However, everyone agrees the freeway's demolition and replacement
with a surface street along with plans for the $30 million
Harley-Davidson Inc. museum complex at Schlitz Park, two blocks
north of the Park East will strengthen the area's development
prospects.
Mayor John O. Norquist has long sought demolition of the Park
East, saying that would make available additional land ...
