Article: Plans approved for new justice center building Structure will house Justice Department, Supreme Court offices, law library

State officials approved plans Wednesday for a $35.8 million justice center on the Capitol Square that will house the Department of Justice, Supreme Court offices and the State Law Library.

Construction of the eight-story office building, which will house about 660 employees, could begin during the summer and is expected to be completed by July 15, 2001.

Gov. Tommy G. Thompson personally negotiated the deal, which he said had an initial price tag of $51.8 million. Some downsizing and haggling helped reduce the price, he said. The facility will be built on W. Main St., directly across from the Capitol, wrapping around the M&I Bank on vacant land the state will purchase from the bank. ...
