Chuck Armstrong didn't mince words when asked about the degree of
difficulty of moving a baseball team from one ballpark to another at
midseason.
"It's terrible," said Armstrong, president of the Seattle
Mariners.
"It's like trying to stage the World Series, an All-Star Game and
opening day all at once. The logistics are a nightmare."
Armstrong should know. The Mariners had 18 days to move from the
Kingdome, their home of 221/2 seasons, to Safeco Field, the team's
new retractable-roof facility. The new ballpark opened Thursday
night to mostly rave reviews, but some club personnel were too
exhausted to enjoy it.
