If it isn't exactly the gunfight at O.K. Corral, call it the
dogfight at Humboldt Blvd. In one corner, the Wisconsin Humane
Society and the statue of a man and a pooch. In the other, doing a
reasonable imitation of a pit bull, Ald. Wayne Frank.
As of Friday, the contenders were at a standoff, with the Humane
Society in militant, circle-the-statue mode and growling about a
possible lawsuit.
When we looked in on the scene earlier this week, the 108-year-old
statue of Henry Bergh, an animal welfare pioneer, and an injured dog
was due to exit its longtime perch in a grove of trees outside the
Humane Society, 4151 N. Humboldt Blvd., and move by Aug. 1 to a
