The second most powerful official in state government,
Administration Secretary Mark Bugher, said Thursday he will leave
that job in mid-September to run the University of
Wisconsin-Madison's Research Park.
Bugher said his new $135,000-a-year job will let him use his
training as a real estate broker while helping turn the inventions
and ideas of UW-Madison faculty members and other employees into new,
growing businesses.
UW-Madison's Research Park now has 76 businesses with 2,200
workers and is "world-renowned," Bugher said. He said cabinet-level
positions in state government "are not career-track" jobs and, at age
50, he had begun a "scan" for another job.
