On Aug. 1, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel printed a letter from
Ald. Wayne Frank that inaccurately characterized the Wisconsin
Humane Society's position on relocating a statue of Henry Bergh, a
symbol for the Humane Society and founder of the humane movement.
In 1995, when there was a move to return the Henry Bergh statue to
its original downtown location, the Wisconsin Humane Society
protested.
In February of 1998, Frank reinitiated a resolution directing that
the Bergh statue, which has resided at the Wisconsin Humane Society
for 32 years, be relocated. We were never provided notice of that
resolution and thus, could not protest.
