Most stories have already been told. So the trick for any
filmmaker is to freshen the familiar. "Trick" turns the age-old tale
of a sheltered young man falling in love with an exotic dancer who is
also probably a prostitute into a gay love story. The sexual
preference switcheroo doesn't much improve the formula, but an
attractive cast makes it enjoyable.
That cast includes Tori Spelling, star of "Beverly Hills 90210."
With a self-deprecating cameo in "Scream 2," a role in the quirky
incest comedy "The House of Yes" and, here, mimicked by a drag queen,
Spelling is on her way to an Oscar nomination as the best sport in
Hollywood.
She turns in a deft and funny, Bette Midler-sized supporting ...
